The system using Google Maps to draw the location, and this provides various functions that can be used to identify the location. These are described below:




 

Number Description
1 The search function at the top of the map allows you to enter an address, road name or suburb to enable you to position the map in the area when the activity, structure or works is planned to take place.

As you start typing the words some options will appear in a drop down list and you can select from one of the options or continue to type the full details and press enter.

The map will then be adjusted to show the location you searched for.
2 Using the + and -  signs you can zoom in and out of the map.

 
3 The drawing tools are located at the top of the map:

These provide the following options:
  • Pan - You can re position the map by clicking on the Pan icon and then clicking on the map and moving the cursor around to re-position the map as required.
  • Marker – This is used to draw a point or a marker on the map
  • Line – This is used to draw a line on the map
  • Shape – This is used to draw a shape on the map
4 You can clear any drawings made to the map by clicking on the “Clear map” function.


Instructions for drawing on the map
 
Type Description
Marker (Point) To draw a point on the map click on the marker icon  and then click on the point on the map where you would like the marker to show.
A marker will then be shown on the map as follows:



You can move the marker by clicking on the marker and dragging it to the correct location.
 
Line (Polyline) To draw a line on the map, click on the line icon  and then clicking the starting point of the line on the map. You can then move your cursor to the next point of the line and click to draw the line to that point. You can continue moving along and clicking at points to continue drawing the line. To mark the end-point double click and the line drawing will stop.

To move any part of the line right-click on the circles and drag them to the correct location.


To remove the line, click on the “Clear map” function.
Shape (Polygon) To draw a shape on the map, click on the shape icon  and then clicking the starting point of the shape on the map. You can then move your cursor to the next point of the shape and click to draw the shape to that point. You can continue moving along and clicking at points to continue drawing the shape. To mark the end, double click and the shape drawing will stop.



To move any part of the line right-click on the circles and drag them to the correct location.


 


Now that you have drawn the location save the activity, structure or works by clicking on Save



After saving a few more sections will open below for you to complete. These are the documents, schedules, emergency contacts and in the case of utilities, location reference points. Instructions for these are provided in the topics below. Once you have completed all these sections click Save at the bottom of the page (below Emergency Contacts).
